Blog 5 Job application

Job Application

1. DCP&P Position

I. Introduction:

1.      Provide a brief description of the type of job/graduate programs that you are you searching for after college.

I am looking for a job helping families and children. I really want to work for DCP&P. I really want to be the voice for children/advocate, since some are too young to speak their mind. I want to work as an intake or the person who goes into the house and does follow ups to see if the children are safe and taken care of. My other option is being a family worker at a school or a case worker at welfare. I am thinking about going to Rutgers for my masters but I have a son and need to get a good paying job. I want to go to Rutgers in about a year or two and I will. I have the will power to continue. I am also thinking to even do alternate route for special education teaching children with Autism. I have three years of experience working with children with Autism and I have the knowledge to assess children using the Applied Behavioral Analysis behavior book (ABA).

2.      How did you decide on this career path?

I always knew I wanted to work with children and families. I started off with majoring in Education, and then I had an issue so I had to change my major. I feel like everything happens for a reason. I love helping people in time of need. When I started doing my internship at Oasis I know that this was what I was meant to be doing helping people.

3.      How do you think your personal and educational accomplishments have led you to this career path?

The Family child studies classes at Montclair really helped me get an insight of working families. The Introduction to Family Services Class opened up my eyes to another side of working with families other than the classroom. After completing thirty-five hours for my field work class, I thought of switching my major from education to family service. I didn’t at the time. I continued in the path of teaching and complete clinical 1, while I was creating and conducting my lessons I thought to myself am I in the right field. Then I had an altercation with my cooperative teacher and the result weren’t positive. I then switched to Family Child studies/Family service in the summer. I already took the five classes to receive the certificate in Child Advocacy so all I had to do to graduate is my internship and senior seminar class. I truly feel like I made the right choice and I received excellent feedback from my supervisor.

Good morning Samira Shoghorui,

I wanted to inform you that we are in receipt of your resume in the Division of Child Protection & Permanency (DCPP) Randolph office. However, the practice has changed and we no longer interview in the office and can’t hire without the candidate going through the process in Trenton first. I have sent your resume to Trenton and when there is a “Job Fest” (massive interviewing) they will contact you and provide you with that information (date/time/place), at which time you will interview and provide them with your preferred counties for employment. Trenton will then forward the interviews to the counties of your choice and they will contact you if interested and if there is availability.

Good Luck!

Blog #4

1) Choose two principles that relate to your internship position.
1. I will communicate openly and truthfully about the nature and extent of services provided.
2.I will support the right of all children and youth to have access to quality education, health and community resources.
2) List these principles and then describe how they relate to your position (use examples if possible).
1. I will communicate openly and truthfully about the nature and extent of services provided.
Oasis provides education classes, clothing, food, after school and teen program. The clothing and food distribution is only for homeless, fire victims, flood victims and domestic violence victims. The policy was changed about a month ago. When clients come to us asking for services we are honest to what services we provide and if we do not have the services, we refer them to reliable sources.  For an example, a client came to me needing clothes for herself and I wasn't able to get them to her because she didn't meet the requirements. I did give her a flyer with Eva's village and Cumac information on it. This why she can go to these agencies and reserve the clothing she needs.
2.I will support the right of all children and youth to have access to quality education, health and community resources.
Oasis provides after school and teen programs for the children of Paterson. The teen program is free of charge and the after school program is affordable. For example, We fill out wellness assessment on all clients and if they have children with out insurance we provide them will the contact information to receive the services they need. Also if they have children we provide them with the information on the after school  program.

3) Next write a few sentences about why these principles are important for protecting and /or respecting your internship population.
These principles are important to have because honesty is an important value to have. It is very important to be honest of the services we provide and have reliable resources to give clients to help meet their needs. The children's health and education needs are very important to meet. The child's safety and well being is one of our main concerns, so we do all we can to help meet those needs. We are a Haven for women and children so we do all we can to help save one life at a time, That's our motto at Oasis.
